Pressure injuries, also known as bedsores or pressure ulcers, are a common problem in the healthcare industry. They occur when an area of the skin is subjected to pressure and is not relieved for a prolonged period. Currently, the National Pressure Injury Advisory Panel (NPIAP) defines a pressure injury[1] as localized damage to the skin and underlying soft tissue, usually over a bony prominence or related to medical or other devices (Kirman & Geibel, 2022). This can happen in bedridden[2] individuals, those using a wheelchair or having limited mobility[3].
