 Microlaryngoscopy – General Anaesthetic

Microlaryngoscopy is an examination of the larynx under a general anaesthetic using magnification. Sometimes it is done purely for diagnostic purposes, but more commonly it is to carry out very fine microsurgery on the vocal cords using fine instruments.

Occasionally laser is used through the microscope which will require special anaesthetic techniques.

In most cases the procedure is done because of a change in voice.

The operation is usually straightforward. In a great majority of case it is done as a day case and you should be able to go home afterwards. However note that you will not be able to drive for 24 hours and you should have somebody accompanying you to the hospital.
