In the past decade, there has been increasing interest in fitting children with contact lenses. This has been driven by patients, parents, practitioners, and the contact lens research community and is caused by the increased interest in myopia control1–6[1] and the improved self-esteem and quality of life enjoyed by children wearing contact lenses.7–9[2] Furthermore, the introduction of daily disposable soft lenses obviates the need for cleaning and storage, making them an attractive option for children and teenagers alike.10,11[3] Indeed, Chalmers et al.12 recently reported that, among patients of all ages in a prospective registry, only two corneal infiltrative events occurred in 960 patient years of daily disposable soft lens wear (489 years silicone hydrogel and 471 years hydrogel)—an incidence of corneal infiltrative events of 21 per 10,000 years.
