The purpose of canal preparation (cleaning and shaping) is to mechanically debride and allow chemical disinfection, followed by sealing of the spaces. Shaping of the canals is partially dictated by the method of obturation to be used. Various instruments have been designed to reduce risks while increasing efficiency and effectiveness.
